Final Week: a summary

Overall, I've enjoyed 2.0. Zamzar is a useful tool particularly with unfamiliar users. The free music sites would be something I will continue to use and perhaps Goodreads to keep a track of books I have yet to read. Facebook I am comfortable with and can understand the social networking appeal.
Lastly, there is Twitter which I originally disliked on principle and now loath with good reason. It is a impersonal and difficult site and I don't see how anyone could ever keep in touch through it. Even Facebook makes more sense.

Week Six: Facebook

The supplied video clip described Facebook as addictive and stalkerish. Both of these comments I would agree with. The large majority of students with laptops sign in to Facebook during lectures. Facebook is really the strongest implementer of self surveillance which is why it took my peers so long to persuade me to join. It is a great communication device and it means I can keep in contact with all the people I don't see on a week by week basis.
Anyway, I added to the discussions on current reading and best book ever ('Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex' by Mary Roach and 'Bloodtide' by Melvin Burgess respectively). I looked into the Folger Shakespeare Library who post about Shakespeare-related events.
As a final note, here is my favourite quote from Nicola Morgan's 'Sleepwalking';
"Once upon a time lived a princess. Her hair was as long as the sound of honey. Her skin was cake-warm. She smelt of biscuit and caramel and her eyes were lemonade bright."

Week Five: Music

I trialled two of suggested music sites; MP3Raid and FreeAlbums. FreeAlbums was difficult to browse as it was in a blog setting. Mp3Raid was easier to search for artists however I did have to endure massive amounts of advertising including pop-ups on weight loss. It was simple to find and download music files. This is a music site I would recommend.

Week Four: Goodreads

I thought Goodreads was a great site and very easy to navigate. I added 100+ books to my shelves in quick succession. I became a fan of Bryan Sykes, Tess Gerritsen and Spike Milligan, among others. The suggested reads are only available on some books unfortunately however the to-read 'shelf' would be a great help for me as I am forever losing physical lists.

Week Three: Twitter

I am not a fan of blogging so I see micro-blogging as just an exaggeration of a process I already dislike. Within a minute of signing up some random person decided to 'follow' me (stalkerish). My most interesting discovery was 'apod' which adds a new cosmic photo each day. I found the site difficult to navigate and I can imagine keeping up with all the tiny little goings on in a number of people's lives would monopolize a fair amount of time. I'm afraid this is not for me.

Week Two: Zamzar

As suggested, I converted a Word document into a pdf. However, being far more familiar with Word, the reverse is preferable. So I converted a pdf into Word with little fuss and now have a document I actually know how to edit. I can imagine the list of conversion options would also be a great help for those unfamiliar with computers. I would find this site helpful when my regular methods of conversion fail.

As a side note, I have included a link to a post about cats in libraries (hint hint!).

Week One: Blogger

I welcome myself back to Blogger with two fresh faces; gorgeous kittens Tivi (gray tabby) and Cammy (light ginger) pictured here at ten weeks old over Easter. I needed to remind myself how to add photos and rearrange the blog to achieve this but it is of course all part of the (re)learning process.
Happy renovations to you all,
